Once you experience forgiveness from your past sins, can you forget you are forgiven ? If so how can that affect our lives ? 2 Peter 1;3-9 His divine power has given to us all things we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence, by which He has given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, so that through these things you might become partakers of the divine nature and escape the corruption that is in the world through lust. For this reason make every effort to add virtue to your faith, and to your virtue, knowledge, and to your knowledge, self- control, and to your self control patient endurance; and to your patient endurance, godliness; and to your godliness, brotherly kindness; and to your brotherly kindness, love. For if these things reside in you and abound, they ensure that you will neither be useless nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ, But the one who lacks these things is blind and shortsighted because he has forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins. In this last verse , I believe, Peter is saying that we can forget from where we have fallen or from where we were at before we were saved. I can see where this has happened to me when I get so caught up in myself. The forgiveness of my sins is one of the greatest gifts and was given to me when I accepted Jesus and what He did for me on the cross. There He redeemed me from Hell , cleansed me from all unrighteousness , and restored my fellowship with God. Don’t you believe this is saying unless we are increasing in these qualities we would be hindered from being effective and productive? I also believe thinking on these qualities proceed the action, in other words of myself I can’t make this happen, but thinking and believing in these qualities can be a part of who I am, this allows God to develop them in my life. In 2 Peter 1 ; 10 7 11 we read: Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, and you will receive a rich welcome in to the eternal Kingdom of our Loud and Savior Jesus Christ.” Wow, what a promise ! “you will never fall” Of myself I can’t keep from falling, God knows that. So He has given us His word, inspired by the Holy Spirit , to guide us in our thoughts and knowledge of Jesus ! He has given us His Holy Spirit to guide our thoughts and actions so we can be the people that God has called us to be and do the things He has called us to do. My effort to live a Christian life , I’m afraid has come mighty short , so today my focus is on living in the present moment and reading the bible, so my thoughts will line up with what I read. I don’t always understand what I read and so I read it over and over , and meditate and pray asking the Holy Spirit to reveal to me what I need to understand. I believe we have thought first then the action, therefore if I line up my thoughts with the word and Gods thoughts then I will have right actions. Understanding that my actions follow my thoughts, if I don’t like my actions, I change my thoughts. On the other hand if my actions are good, then I want to think on those thoughts that preceded my actions. This brings us back to forgiveness, my thoughts should be on remembering what Jesus did for me, the forgiveness He bought and paid for. I’ll leave you with this thought: Jesus was and is thinking of you, will you think of Him?
